Julienne veggies are quite pretty

A date in college, julienne veggies, and a need to expand my palate.

When I was a kid, I refused to eat vegetables. I loved fruit, potatoes, meat, pasta, you name it, but veggies? Ugh, gross. My parents tried the old "finish what's on your plate or no dessert".
But that didn't work. I can live without dessert. They tried sending me to bed if I wouldn't eat vegetables; you name it, they tried it. Eventually, they just gave up and figured if I ended up with some sort of vitamin deficiency then that would be the thing that taught me my lesson. (I didn't end up with a vitamin deficiency.)
When I was in college, I was on a date with this girl who I was really trying to impress. We went to a steak house and while I ordered a steak, she ordered a salad. Gross.
My steak came with strings of veggies, which I later learned was called julienne. We both cleaned our respective plates, but I left the vegetables. My date looked at me funny.
I knew I had to eat the julienne veggies. I smiled at her and said I was saving those for last, since they're my favorite part of the meal. I scooped up a forkful and shoved it in my mouth. To my delight, I really liked them. Somehow, the julienning of the vegetables made them more palatable? That's what I'm going with at least.
Since then, I eat vegetables all the time; I just need to make them julienne style. Though, I have been branching out & I've realized, I just like sauteed veggies. That's the trick!

They have special slicers for julienning now.

Obviously not us, but in my head, it went this well.
