An Insane Variety Of Guns Were Used As World War II Weapons

World War I and II prompted the development of many new weapons, including assault rifles, machine guns and sub-machine guns. Machine guns were invented in 1884...
... but they weren't widely used in combat until World War I. Once they were used, the variation on them was incredible. The Nazis had a gun called The Maschinengewehr 34 (MG 34), an extremely reliable and well-crafted machine guns of WWII. It fired 900 rounds per minute, exceeding other guns' RPMs of 450 - 600.
Hitler's army invented the assault rifle during the latter part of World War II. They invented the Sturmgewehr 44, and distributed about 400,000 of them in a last-ditch effort to regain their stronghold in the war. Obviously, it didn't work, but the weapon changed warfare as we know it.
On the U.S. side, the Colt 1911 was the standard side-arm for armed forces, and is still on e of the most popular handguns ever made.
Today, the MG 34 is now updated to the MG 42, which can fire more than 1,500 rounds per minute.
