Those eyes will haunt me forever

Anthony Hopkins, Silence of the Lambs, & why I had a fear of Chianti wine.

This is going to sound really stupid, but I was afraid to drink Chianti wine up until last year. I guess a backstory would be good, here. I think we all remember the film "Silence of the Lambs"?
It came out in 1991 and stared Jodie Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins. I was thirteen years old at the time. My friends and I really wanted to see the movie and so my friend's dad took us to the movie theater and dropped us off with some cash for tickets and junk food. We got Twizzlers, popcorn, and diet cola.
The movie was terrifying to us. We huddled onto each other for dear life as we were creeped out to the very end. You know that one scene where Hopkins is speaking to Foster?
Where he tells her he ate the man's liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti and then he makes that weird noise with his mouth? Yep. That's what did me in for YEARS.
When we left that movie theater, I felt forever changed; like my innocence was gone. I had nightmares of Hopkins making that weird noise for months. I still can't watch any of his movies! I started drinking wine in college, but whenever someone had Chianti (rare), it's like I would have this weird PTSD.
I finally sucked it up and had a glass last year at a winery. My heart was pounding in my chest, but I'm glad I over came that fear. Now, if I can just watch one of Hopkins' films...
Not us, but basically.
Not us, but basically.
I just can't trust this face! I only ever see Hannibal Lector.
