Can Anyone Explain Hamiltonian Mechanics In a Simple, Concise Way?

I had to do an assignment where I needed to explain Hamiltonian Mechanics in less than 300 words and in layman's terms, for a potential writing job with an engineering company.
This was almost impossible. I mean, sure, you can define it, but a layman isn't going to understand when you drop terms like Lagrangian Formulation and saying 'qualitative distinction between chaotic and regular motion in symplectic maps and in systems of differential equations is a fundamental problem of nonlinear dynamics' is all jargon.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah, okay.
Right.
Right.
“The explanation of this concept is complete jargon.”
Oh, okay, a vector field on phase space!
Oh, okay, a vector field on phase space!
Yeah, this equation really makes sense.
Yeah, this equation really makes sense.
That explains it, sure.
