I absolutely love fairs and festivals of any kind. I don't care if there's nothing for me to do there, I want to go! I love the food smells, the atmosphere, and the energy.
I genuinely don't care that food and alcohol are overpriced-- it's part of the experience! I try to get to the L.A. County Fair every year. It's always the same, but that doesn't change my attitude about it! The place is huge! There's so much to see and do and all the rides in the world to get your thrills on.
One of my favorite festivals in California is the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival in the autumn. It's free, or at the very least, maybe $5, and it's such a sweet, family friendly event. There's a place to touch sea creatures, bounce houses, amazing food, and pumpkin carving contests. Who wouldn't love to watch that?
There was a watermelon festival somewhere in the valley that I went to a few years ago. It was dirty and hot, but it was still a blast. There was a watermelon seed spitting contest!
I try to get to as many fairs and festivals as time will allow me to. The AAA magazine is a great place to find them!
I finally got to visit the state of Louisiana for some festivals. I'm a huge fan of jazz, and I had been knocking around the idea of finally visiting Louisiana and checking some of them out myself. Louisiana is a state with extreme weather.
