Beautifully decorated hall for their wedding

I had never heard of rice wine until we went to our friend's wedding.

I don't think I would have ever even thought to try rice wine unless it hadn't been presented to me at our friend's wedding. I hadn't even heard of rice wine, which shocked me.
I love wine. My wife and I used to go up to Sonoma in Northern California all the time to visit wine country. That's why I was so surprised when I heard about it for the first time last weekend at our friend's wedding reception. It was a beautiful ceremony held in Downtown Los Angeles in this giant hall they rented.
After the ceremony, we moved to another room which had been decked out in an Asian-theme. Our friend, Joy, married a man of Chinese descent and they thought it was a way to honor that.
It was truly beautiful in the hall: high ceilings with lanterns hung from them & red tinted light bulbs were used. At dinner, the parents of the groom stood to give a toast.
They asked everyone to pour a glass of rice wine from the bottles that had already been placed on the table. I did what I was told and enjoyed the toasts. When it was time to chat again, I spoke with people at our table about the wine. There were a few others who had never heard of it, so I didn't feel too awful.
The rice wine was a type called Shaoxing and it was delicious. I'm going to have to find a Chinese market and pick up a few bottles for us to have in our wine collection.
