I have a friend with about a million tattoos. Okay, that's a stretch, but she has a lot, which is really cool, because I love learning the stories behind each symbol.
And that's really what a tattoo is, right? A symbol to remember something or someone by. Some of her tattoos are blatant symbols; like she has a peace sign on her wrist, which she told me reminded her to stay calm when she gets angry. She has an eye on the back of her neck, like she's watching everything behind her.
She has another one that is the Chinese symbol for "happy" on her shoulder. I asked her why she had tattoos in places she didn't necessarily see all the time. She told me that sometimes, tattoos aren't just for the person, but for the public, too. I think that's really sweet. It's a nice little reminder for joy that people see.
My friend has other tattoos that mean things, but aren't so obvious. Like, a little boxing glove to remind her to keep fighting during rough times. I like the symbolism in that on that.
Honestly, I had never thought about getting a tattoo, but learning about others' tattoo symbols has me thinking... maybe.
Peace sign on her wrist.
