When I was in school, each year the ninth graders got to go to Six Flags. It was a right of passage everyone knew about. I was extremely afraid of roller coasters but I went to be with friends.
The morning of the big trip I decided I would try a roller coaster for the very first time. Though my decision was made in the morning, the action wasn't complete until the day was coming to an end. I made my friends promise that they would ride with me and that I could hold onto their hands as long and as hard as I needed to.
I remember the name of the roller coaster, Batman The Ride. It opened in the early 1990's after the success of the 1989 Batman movie. The big steel roller coaster was black and yellow.
It was the tamest of roller coasters the theme park had to offer; yet it still frightened me to death. But I made a promise, so by days end I was getting on that roller coaster!
