Somewhere I read that - I think on Lonely Planet - that Australia has the most buried treasure of any continent. I had an upcoming trip to Gold Coast of all places, so I decided I'd dig.
I did a lot of Internet research trying to figure out where I should do my hunting. You want to look for seriously old details about the areas you're visiting, and in particular, you're looking for undeveloped places that USED to have people residing there or at least nearby.
I found a town known for its gold deposits called Cracow, about a 6-hour drive from Gold Coast. I rented a car and drove there. I wanted to see if I could check out the Gold Mine.
When I arrived, I wanted to hit the local library to see what I could find on the history of this tiny place. They don't have a library.
