I took myself on a solo trip to Italy last year and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I was a little late to the "Eat, Pray, Love" train, but once I saw the movie (sorry, didn't read the book) I was ready for my own adventure.
The first thing I did after checking into my villa in Italy, was get myself a proper Italian meal. I sat on this beautiful outdoor patio of this quaint little Italian pasta place. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and some Italian white wine. The server brought me a bottle of Arneis, which is more floral in taste with notes of pear and apricot.
I think I drank half the bottle before my meal arrived! I was enjoying the atmosphere and the Italian wine, I almost didn't even see the server place my meal in front of me!
They have REAL food, there. Nothing was processed or over salted/seasoned. It was like pure joy had over come me; I could have stayed in that moment forever. I allowed myself to eat slowly and drink slowly to really cherish the flavors of the food and the Italian wine. I really loved the Arneis! I was told it's a rather fickle grape to grow.
I went back there every evening of my trip to try something new. I had a new bottle of wine every night & had a few shipped back to the states to be waiting for me when I returned.
Every time I think of that trip, I feel my entire body slow down and become calm. I must return again, but this time, explore another region. While I loved it, I know there's so much more there.
