Digital wall clock

My grandparents had a lot of clocks but only ever hung a digital wall clock

My grandparents had such an interesting house; it was full of a lot of junk. Looking back, I think they may have been hoarders. This might be why my mom kept things so immaculate.
I liked going over there as a kid, though. What kid doesn't like to explore the nooks and crannies of a house full of stuff? There was always a corner I hadn't gotten in to! They had newspapers from years past, magazines that had never been read, eclectic furniture pieces, stuffed animals (my favorite), and clocks.
The only clock that was actually hung, though, was this basic digital wall clock. It's neon lights kind of pierced your eyes in a way that made you not want to look at it.
I've seen the same clocks at comedy clubs; you know when you look at the operating booth and you can see the digital clock counting down how much time the comic has? Like that.
They had way cooler clocks to display, too! They had some amazing cuckoo clocks with little figurines that danced around and some hand carved pieces that were really pretty. I asked them about it when I got older and no one had an answer for me other than the digital wall clock was an anniversary gift.
When they passed away, my mother and I hired a cleaning company to toss almost all of the junk that was in their house. We looked through some of it ahead of time, but it was useless.
They had stacks of newspapers in one corner.

This was basically their digital wall clock. Who would give this as a gift?

“... I think they might have been hoarders.”
They had cuckoo clocks they could have displayed instead.

I genuinely don't think they bought them for me.
