Aunt Mary with her many medals of honor

My Great Aunt Was The Only Female Nurse At Normandy Landing In 1943

I knew the women in my family were amazing, but I didn't know to what extent. My aunt let me know right away as she was proud of her past. On the day allied troops entered France she was the only nurse present.
My great aunt trained with special forces within the United States Marines Corps for this mission. She rode in all of the helicopters and made sure our troops were taken care of on the battlefield. Because she was so close to combat she was trained to use a machine gun too. She earned the nickname Machine Gun Mary. Aunt Mary is certainly my hero.
“Aunt Mary is certainly my hero.”
