Maybe this will sound silly, but I've been using the same writing pen for years. I've just been refilling it. I call it my writing pen "Bob" because I name every inanimate object that I own "Bob"-- I don't really know why, but it fits.
I got Bob right before I went to college. He was an engraved ball point pen that my parents gave me as a high school graduation present. They engraved "Always proud of you-- keep moving forward" onto it and it's a message that has resonated with me even in the toughest of times. We all need validation and some encouragement when things are hard.
I prefer to write things out by hand before I type them. I get that this creates extra work for me, but it just helps me think better than staring at a computer screen.
Bob has been my trusty friend through all of those college years & beyond now. Luckily, I don't write term papers anymore, but I do enjoy writing stories, even scripts for my friends sometimes. Writing with Bob is encouraging because he's been around forever. It's a nice, gentle reminder to look down at that writing pen and see that sweet message on it.
I appreciate that I can refill this pen, too. My parents were thinking ahead when they bought me that! They knew how much I loved writing, so the gesture was so kind of them.
I've been thinking about getting a personalized writing pen for my girlfriend, too. She will probably think it a little cheesy, but it's the thought that counts, write? (See what I did there?)
