Is that the Iron Giant? I remember the Iron Giant!

Of All Of The Popular Books, Why Is The Least Interesting Getting a Movie?

You know what I want in a book? I want a loosely threaded plot around a list of things I remember nostalgically. I want to see characters and things from shows that I remember coming together.
I want to see the Noid and Mac Tonight play ultimate frisbee against Snarf from Thundercats and that one guy from The Snorks. I want to see all of these things that I recognize on screen at the movie theater so that I can point at them and exclaim that I notice and do indeed remember them. That would be awesome.
I want to feel validated by a swash of things I like being presented to me in a non-threatening way but with a message of rebellion against "the man" that I can feel cool about.
Okay so you get the point right? Dropping the act, why are books and movies like this presented as fun and okay, but media aimed at teenage girls as opposed to boys is endlessly mocked?
I dare you to read through Ready Player One and tell me it's a deep and complex story with themes and well-rounded characters. Or, replace every specific pop cultural reference with a stereotypical "girl" thing or type of cheese. It really does not hold up, yet it gets a multi-million dollar budget.
Is this going to fall by the wayside along with those YA dystopian novels made movies with "teenagers" being played by handsome young adults? I hope so. I can only hope so.
Do you recognize this guy? Don't you feel cool and validated?
Do you recognize this guy? Don't you feel cool and validated?
This guy gets it.
This guy gets it.
