My mulled wine is always a potluck favorite

Rainy days, potlucks, friends, and my infamous mulled wine.

We don't get too many rainy days here in Los Angeles; rainy days are pretty much our winter. So, when it does happen, my friends and I like to get together for a potluck dinner.
Everyone is assigned something different-- Mary brings the meat dish, Scott brings the vegan dish, Joey brings something with potatoes, Kerry brings a vegetable dish, LeeAnn brings dessert, and I bring mulled wine. Honestly, that's my favorite part about the potluck dinners-- the mulled wine. It's so cozy on a rainy day!
I like to use Merlot wine since it's pretty palatable with just about every type of dish out there. I add orange, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, a little vanilla and some dried figs.
There's one last ingredient I use, but I can't share it because it's the secret to making my mulled wine so good! Anyways, we all trek through the terrible LA drivers to enjoy it.
We rotate houses/apartments to keep it fair, driving wise. This last rainy bought we had it at my place. Thank goodness! We sat around, I made a fire in my fire place (yes, we have fire places in LA) and we ate and drank until we thought we'd burst! I definitely took an extra spin class or two the days after the "feast"!
There's never any mulled wine left over, which is a good thing. It's so tasty! Though, I could make it any time I want, but it's just so special when we have our rainy day potlucks.
