Our sun in a couple billion years

Supernova Explosions Are Stars Going Out With a Bang. Too Bad Ours Wont.

Will our resident star, our sun, Sol, be going out with such a bang. Oh I wish it would, but unfortunately, our sun is worthless freeloader that won't be going out with an awe inspiring finale.
Will our resident star, our sun, Sol, be going out with such a bang. Oh I wish it would, but unfortunately, our sun is worthless freeloader that instead of going out with an awe inspiring finale, will sit around, get fat, and do nothing. Our sun is destined to become what is known as a red giant, wherein it will balloon in size.
Red giants are incredibly hot at the center, and cool around the surface. They are much less massive than other stars, though their size is truly intimidating.
The size increase will make such an impact, that the planets Mercury and Venus will literally be consumed by the growing dying sun. You read that right.
Two planets will be utterly obliterated via no fault of their own. Our planet, Earth, won't be doing much better. The dying sun's new size will bring it right up next to the Earth, making life miserable if not impossible for everyone and everything. The sun's habitable zone will move further away from where it is now.
The new habitable zone will end up around Jupiter and Saturn. Good news for Rhea, Dione, Iapetus, Ganymede, Titan, Tethys, and Callisto I guess. Not Io and Europa though. They're lame.
Say goodbye to Mercury and Venus.

Get in on that Jupiter and Saturn real estate while you still can.
