In 1991 Konami put out a Simpsons side scrolling beat 'em up game and it was great. Everybody loved this game, everybody loves this game. I totally consider myself in that "everyone".
The only place growing up that had this game was the bad local pizza place. As in, most towns have two pizza places and one of them is bound to be the bad one. I swear, the bad pizza place kept itself afloat because of this machine. We all insisted on going to the bad place just to play Konami Simpsons.
The bad pizza place's cabinet worked fine, except for the fact that Marge was broken. I'm not sure if it was the coin slot or the machine itself, but you could not play as Marge with her vacuum cleaner attacks. We would watch the demo, marveling at this character we would never get to play. It was torture.
The attention to detail of the show was on point. All the characters were there, and every level was crammed with references to everything Simpsons. No character too minor here!
Homer's dreamland was a gag in one episode, and it ended up becoming its own level. Seriously, next level greatness here.
Life in Hell cameos!
The cabinet (with a working Marge on the far left!)
The details were something else.
This guy just would not die.
What was with this boss?
The minigames between boards ruled.
“We all insisted on going to the bad place just to play”
Dreamland was only in one episode!
