There are many red wine types out there-- don't get confused!

Red wine for me!

Red wine types

I'm a wine connoisseur. I particularly like to enjoy a glass of red wine with my meals. Although, I love a great glass of white wine, as well; just not at the same time! There are so many different types of red wine out there, it can be hard to know what is what. Here is a tiny
Cabernet grapes.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the major and most popular types of red wine out there. I think it's the bottle that people bring to my house the most often. It has flavors of bell peppers, olives, herbs, and black cherry. It ripens late so while it is so popular, it is rarely done correctly.
Malbec on the vine.

Malbec

Malbec is one of my favorite red wines. It has notes of sour cherry and spice and is a heavy wine. It ages in Oak barrels and is a major player in Argentina.
A good Merlot is hard to find these days.

Merlot wine

Merlot is a very common red wine. It's palatable with pretty much everything, but this does make it a little lacking in distinctive characteristics. It has notes of watermelon, cherry, strawberry, and plum. Merlot rose to prominence in the 1990's, but the market became over-saturated with very watered down versions, which was quite unfortunate. I still enjoy a glass of a really good Merlot wine from time to time.
Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noirs are another one of my favorite red wines. It's one of the most fickle grapes out there to make wine with! It has flavors of tomato, cola, blackberry, cherry, and plum.
Syrah wine is might fine.

Syrah

Syrah is a huge red wine here in California. It's made from a deep red sparkling wine that is also fortified as Port. It has notes of pepper, clove, blackberry and boysenberry.
Zinfandel wine

Zinfandel

Zinfandel rose to fame in California, but it is now grown all over the world. California Zinfandels can reach 15-16% alcohol content levels. It has notes of raspberry, blackberry, & prune.
