My dad had this absurd collection of automatic watches which he passed on to my brothers and me. By "absurd", I mean AWESOME. I love a good time piece! It's a good idea to have many.
Automatic watches are probably one of the best modern inventions, because there's no winding involved-- they're self-winding. You just set it and forget it, until the battery dies and you need to replace that. But that isn't a common occurrence throughout the watch's lifespan. There are so many beautiful pieces to choose from.
My brothers and I fought just a little bit over who would get which of our father's pieces. He didn't specifically delegate which would go to whom, just that we were to receive them when he passed. A time piece, my father taught us, was an important staple in a man's wardrobe; even with the invention of smart phones.
I know most women don't wear a time piece anymore, but if you pay attention, just about every man still does. At least, in the professional world or if he's a man of great taste.
I wish I had had a son so as to pass on my own collection. My girls aren't into watches at all, but I understand.
How gorgeous is this watch??
Another older automatic watch.
This piece is unique. I've always loved the shape of it.
A classic piece.
I love the retro feel of this one.
Another fun retro one.
An older automatic watch.

I recently read in a Watchers Magazine that Swiss watches are on the decline for production. Most people have been showing major interest digital watches since their debut. People are into convenience.
