David Van Dusseldorp sat on an Iowa rooftop eagerly adjusting the antenna in hopes to receive the world’s first Global Positioning System signal in 1977. He used a 6-foot-tall, two-seat receiver station -- now, you can hold a receiver “station” in the palm of your hand! The GPS has reshaped society as we know it. We are able to send current locations, use real-time traffic navigation and track movement of animals with GPS chips in them. There are around 30 satellites orbiting around the Earth at all times -- that’s a lot!
