This dapper Scotsman is the father of antibiotics. Have you ever left a piece of fruit out on the table for too long, only to find it covered in mold? Have you ever looked at the mold and thought "I bet I could cure diseases with that stuff"? Alexander Fleming did. in 1928 Fleming accidentally discovered what would eventually be known as penicillin. He was fairly humble about the whole thing, stating that "One sometimes finds, what one is not looking for. When I woke up just after dawn on September 28, 1928, I certainly didn't plan to revolutionize all medicine by discovering the world's first antibiotic, or bacteria killer. But I suppose that was exactly what I did." What a guy!
