Julie d'Aubigny (also known as "Mademoiselle Maupin" or as "La Maupin") is the most awesome woman you've likely never heard of. Julie was born in 17th century France, and was an opera singer and swordswoman. Her love life was the stuff of legends, with d'Aubigny engaging in passionate romances with both men and women. Woe to anyone foolish enough to try and keep her from her current lover. One such incident involved d'Aubigny breaking into a convent, swiping the body of a deceased nun, placing said nun in her lover's bed, and setting the room ablaze to fake the young woman's death. Another saw d'Aubigny getting into a fight with a man, stabbing him with a sword, then becoming lovers.
