Film, History, Icebergs
On this day, 21 years ago, James Cameron's blockbuster hit "Titanic" first premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Critics were skeptical, predicting the movie (like the titular ship itself) would flop. "Titanic" went on to hold the box office record for 12 years. The real historical ties, mixed with the gripping emotional story, and topped off with fantastic special effects made for a surprise smash hit movie. Positive word of mouth and repeat viewings contributed to the film's success, (and having a young Leonardo DiCaprio as the star certainly didn't hurt). So congratulations, "Titanic". Treat yourself to some fine wine. You've earned it, and you're old enough now to buy it.
