"I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. Mother took me to see him in a department store and he asked for my autograph." - Shirley Temple
Though Christmas technically celebrates the birth of one Jesus of Nazareth, the real star of the modern holiday is Santa Claus. He's big, he's bearded, he drives a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer, and he's able to deliver toys to children all over the world in a single night. When it comes to holiday characters, Santa is undeniably the most well-known. That red hat and long white beard are all anybody really needs to invoke the image of the jolly fat man. Santa is so popular, he has children writing physical letters to him, even today! Even serious institutions like NORAD get into the Christmas spirit, "tracking" Santa Claus to the delight of children across the country.
