“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in honor of the revolutionary American civil rights activist. King came to national prominence after organizing a successful bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama that lasted 385 days, protesting racial segregation laws. Over the next decade, King would travel the country, advocating civil rights reform through nonviolent resistance. On August 28, 1963, King gave his legendary “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. in front of a crowd of thousands, delivering one of the most impactful speeches in American history.
