“There is only one difference between a madman and me. The madman thinks he is sane. I know I am mad.” — Salvador Dali, Spanish Surrealist Artist
Happy Birthday to Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali, one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Known for his cerebral and complicated imagery, Dali’s most famous work is his 1931 abstract painting of melting clocks in a serene landscape titled “The Persistence of Memory”. Never limiting himself to just one art form, Dali mastered painting, filmmaking, photography, and sculpting (while also maintaining one of greatest mustaches in the history of mankind!) Dali remained an active artist until his passing in 1989, and his influence can still be felt in the art world today — often being cited as a major inspiration for many modern surrealists like Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons.
