“Climb the mountains and get their good things. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy.” — John Muir (American Naturalist Writer and Conservationist)
Happy 85th Birthday to Great Smoky Mountains National Park! The Smokies were officially established 85 years ago today — though it would be six more years until the vast mountain range would be dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940. America’s most visited national park, the Smokies straddle the border between Tennessee and North Carolina, encompassing more than 800 square miles that attract more than 11 million annual visitors. A sprawling landscape with lush forests and trout-filled waters, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is perfect for hiking, fishing, sight-seeing — or all of the above!
