“I was an overnight success alright, but 30 years is a long, long night.” — Ray Kroc, Founder of McDonald’s
Happy National Drive-Thru Day from PASH! In 1954, American businessman Ray Kroc saw an opportunity after entering a popular burger joint in San Bernardino, CA owned and operated by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald — the very first McDonald’s restaurant. Kroc noticed that by limiting their menu to just burgers, fries, and beverages, the brothers were running an incredibly effective operation that was able to supply a product that was not only cheap and delicious, but easy to replicate. Kroc went into business with Dick and Mac, becoming a franchisee and buying the exclusive rights to McDonald’s name and operating system from the brothers just six years later in 1961. With Kroc in control, McDonald’s became the preeminent American fast-food stop, its golden arches a beacon to hungry travelers around the world.
