“Milk is for babies. When you grow up you have to drink beer.” — Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austrian-American Actor, Politician and Former Professional Bodybuilder
Today is International Beer Day, an unofficial holiday created in Santa Cruz, California that has expanded into a global celebration of all things beer. Held on the first Friday of August, International Beer Day was founded by beer lover Jesse Avshalomov, who explained its origin in an interview with NPR: “Part of the way it grew from there was reaching out to bars - say, ‘What are you doing for International Beer Day this year?’” What started as a practical joke on local bars quickly grew to a worldwide commemoration that is now recognized in over 200 cities with the goal to “bring the world together by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures”. Head down to your local bar, pub, brewery — or just open up the fridge and chug a cold one in honor of International Beer Day. Cheers!
