“The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.” — Lucille Ball, American Actress, Comedian & Producer
Do you love Lucy? Because we sure do! Today is the birthday of late comedic actress Lucille Ball, the first woman to head a Hollywood production company — appropriately titled Desilu, a portmanteau of her name and the name of her husband and longtime costar Desi Arnaz. Ball rose to international fame after starring in “I Love Lucy”, a classic television program that is widely credited with inventing the traditional three-act sitcom format. After the show ended its six-year run in 1957, Ball continued producing successful shows, working behind the scenes and paving the way for fellow comediennes like Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence. More than 60 years after airing its final episode, “I Love Lucy” reruns are still playing on televisions all over the world, proving Ball’s comedic genius is truly timeless.
