“What is comedy? Comedy is the art of making people laugh without making them puke.” — Steve Martin, Emmy and Grammy-Award Winning Comedian & Actor
Happy Birthday to Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian and actor Steve Martin — the legendary funnyman is turning 74 years old today. Martin started out as a staff writer for “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”, a comedy variety show that earned him an Emmy Award at just 23 years old in 1969. Throughout the 1970s, Martin released several blockbuster comedy albums that went platinum and he became a household name, making frequent appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “Saturday Night Live” before transitioning to the big screen and starring in classic films like “The Jerk” and “Father of the Bride”. An avid banjo enthusiast, Martin pursued this interest later in his career and toured with various bluegrass acts, eventually releasing his first solo music album “The Crow” and winning the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010.
