“There’s nothing more beautiful than a smile that has struggled through tears.” – Nicki Minaj, Grammy-nominated Rapper
Grammy-nominated rapper Nicki Minaj announced yesterday that she’s retiring from music to start a family with her partner Kenneth Petty, a surprising announcement that shocked the hip hop community. Minaj first rose to fame after releasing several mixtapes that gained her a cult following, eventually acquiring herself a recording contract with fellow rapper Lil Wayne’s company Young Money Entertainment in 2009. Minaj’s debut album “Pink Friday” was an instant success, spawning the Billboard number-one single “Super Bass” and selling more than two million copies. In 2017, after dominating the music charts for years, Minaj earned the Guinness World Record for most Billboard Hot 100 entries by a female solo artist, overtaking previous record-holder Aretha Franklin. Happy retirement to the undisputed “Queen of Rap” — though we hope she’s not leaving her throne for too long!
