“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” — John Muir, Conservationist Activist & Founder of the Sierra Club
Today is Take A Hike Day! Have you been counting your steps? Whether you’re trekking across the wilderness or just walking down to the local Starbucks, get out outside today and — we mean this politely — take a hike! This unofficial day of recognition was established by the American Hiking Society, a non-profit dedicated to advocating for hikers and preserving the more than 60,000 miles of trails across the country. If you’re an enthusiast looking for an epic hike, the National Park Service will be waiving its entrance free at some of its 61 protected areas in honor of Take A Hike Day.
